Nursery daydreams

Ahhhh one of the many downsides of living in a one bedroom flat.... no real space, and certainly no nursery to be decorating! Oh the irony of being a muralist for kid's rooms and nurseries... and not being able to do one of my own!

Not to worry, I'm quite merrily offsetting this unfortunate set of circumstances by ogling the nursery decor of others... some personal favourites:

The colours in this French designers' nursery (in particular the blue cot) make me all warm and fuzzy - courtesy of Design Sponge.

And following on with the blue theme, this pretty little number from Me and Wee's lovely blog makes gorgeous use of a pale blue with sunny yellow accents:

Loving the use she's made of some embroidery hoops and fun fabric there on the wall....
!

Woops.

Oh dear. That was a bit of a hiatus, wasn't it?

It's amazing how the time can fly - I could have sworn it had only been a couple of months since I posted stuff - woops!

You'll be happy to know however that I haven't been lounging around in a blogless state doing nothing, I've been rather busy baby building... takes a surprising amount of time and energy too, it does!

So I'm now 25 weeks along, and am starting to resemble one of these whenever I try and get off the couch or out of bed:

Very amusing for all onlookers, I can assure you. I'll post a photo of the bump shortly - it's coming along nicely.

In other baby-related news: it's a boy, he's due 26th April, he has a possible career as a boxer ahead of him, and seems to want me to eat as many clementines as I can get my hands on.

Hmmm... how to make it adult sized.......?

Well. Future-child (as he/she will henceforth be known as) will clearly be needing one of these. Just wondering how much extra anchoring you'd need to make it adult sized? Hmmm

And if you're wondering how one might go about fashioning oneself one of these bad boys, the folk over at Apartment Therapy have kindly posted some instructions here

Hooks into the ceiling so you can put it up and down as you please! Noice!

No reason needed - Just look at it!!!

Woops!

Been a while, wouldn't you say? I'd like to be able to say I've been frantically busy, but the truth is I've been ridiculously lazy :)

I guess chooks are as good a place as any to pick it up from! I never did get around to reveal the chickens that were coming....
Meet the residents of my chicken coop:

Made out of vintage fabric (but of course), these little guys will steadfastly hold your doors back with bravery and determination not seen since the great chicken wars. OK, so they just sit there. They're useful little doorstops though!

Filled with rice, these guys are still kind of the prototypes... planning on refining the design and having zips in them so they can be sold "flat-packed" (posting something full of rice aint cheap!)

Door mice and some snakes to keep out draughts are on the cards also... stay tuned!

I need to add "large trees" to my property wishlist

Oh my. "Sorry kids, this is mummy and daddy's."

Critters are coming...

.... well, chickens, snakes and mice specifically...

*skulks away cryptically*

The bauble fairy came!

I nearly forgot to mention! I opened a xmas present from a lovely lady at my work, and what gorgeous wee thing should be inside but this! She'd seen me lusting after it and putting up the post about it below..... and got it for me, bless 'er!

No words needed

Ok, maybe one. WANT.

Lovely choons

My friend Maria Byrne will be putting out an EP soon this year - check her out on myspace here .... she's fabulous!

I've been taking photos for her and sorting out graphics like the one above for her site - of course, once she's famous I'll shamelessly ride along on her coat-tails and be drinking champagne in the VIP sections of the world in return :)

2009!

Ahhh... bit of a wee gap in the posts there... I'm putting it down to a well earned new year's blogging holiday after my strenuous and exhausting 35 posts to date :)

So! what can I tell you.... Xmas was lovely - we had Ben's family all over to London for what will be our last Xmas with them for a little while. Given that our house just aint big enough, we rented one in South London that would sleep the 10 of us. Cue much drinking, eating and merriment with Ben's mum & partner, brother, sister & boyfriend, sister-in-law and two nephews!

Xmas evening we had Ben's uncle, grandma and 3 cousins over... and boxing day we had Kofi's family over as well! Mucho full house...

Here we all are just before we all left

And yes, it was as bloody cold as it looks!

Sickness reigned supreme in our house between Xmas and NYE though, so lots of lying about feeling sorry for ourselves and not much celebrating on New Years itself.. I thought I'd make the most of being sober though and popped down to the river for some photos of the fireworks... this one's my favourite

What does 2009 hold for us? Making the most of ol' London town prior to leaving later in the year is pretty high on my list. It's amazing how many things you can never get around to doing!

Bags and other goodies shall of course feature greatly... I've spent January stocking up on some rather fab vintage fabric and planning some new designs and other fun stuff!

All in all, I think 2009 is shaping up to be a fine year, a damn fine year indeed.

My brother Allan

Today is the 9th anniversary of us losing my brother Allan. I find it hard to believe that so much time has passed - I still miss him loads, and can't help but think of what he would be like now.

My sister Monique has put together this collage on her blog, and I hope she doesn't mind me reposting it here:

I thought I'd also add in a couple of my favourite photos of Allan too

Cushions for your tush(ions)

Thought I'd branch out a little for this weekend's market at Brixton:

14" x 14" microfibre cushions - zip closures, vintage patterned material and some rather nice grey vintage suit fabric

More to follow!

I think I have a Scrabble obsession

Currently tickling my fancy:

Scrabble Rug! I would of course need a full complement of oversized letters to match....

Or, how about this clock from Etsy seller 2cheekymonkeys?

I think this has all been brought on by my wonderful gift I recieved from my sister - a necklace with interchangeable pendants made from scrabble tiles! Fabulous! I'll have to take some photos of them to post....... thanks Neek!

Cute idea for the fireplace-deprived amongst us

From Living Etc - a cute idea for a makeshift mantlepiece type thingy:

Can you tell I'm starting to feel festive?

As this will be our last Christmas in London for the next few years, we're having Ben's family all over for a few days... not to our house (not big enough!) but to a rental house we found in South London big enough to sleep all of us.... can't wait!

Then for next Xmas, we'll get to spend it with my family in Sydney - a sunny Xmas will be a first for Ben, and it'll be 6 years since my last one with my family - long overdue!

Ho ho ho

I heart these, big time!

Awww... getting all a bit wistful about leaving London and came across these li'l babies

might have to get me some!

Local Market @ Brixton

Brixton Arts & Crafts Market is a new market that is only about a mile from my house - very convenient! Thought I'd give it a whirl last week - not too bad... it wasn't hugely busy, but I still managed to do pretty well.

A great mood and environment though - Brixton's got such an interesting history and is colourful and diverse. Fantastic for people-watching too - some right nutters about!

Had a good day - made some dosh and met some lovely people too. The talented and lovely Jasmine Mercer was next door to me with some beautiful paintings and cards - check out some of her stuff on her website.... we finished up with a sneaky couple of red wines together behind our stalls in the VERY chilly late afternoon.... !

I've booked in for their next stall on the 21st, and am hoping to be able to do Portobello Market on the 20th... !
